The Oldest Foot Race in Town
If you’re one of the many people out there in the world that have a deep-rooted passion for running, more notably racing, than you’ll want to hop, skip, jump or fly off to San Francisco on May 20th, to partake in the 101-year old Zazzle Bay to Breakers 12km race. This isn’t your typical grab a number and go kind of race, it if firstly, one of the world’s largest races, and takes your through the scenic wonders of San Francisco.
Staring off in the northeast end near The Embarcadero, the Bay side of the city, straight through to the west end, the Breakers of Ocean Beach, the race is 12km (7.46 miles) of pure joy. And if the idea of running the full 12k doesn’t get you excited, well than you’ll love the fact that you’ll be brushing shoulders with world-class athletes and costumed runners strutting their stuff along the way. One of the unique things about the oldest footrace is that people from all walks of life stroll on down to this challenging and simply perfect course to show their side of funk. In true San Francisco spirit, thousands of participants get all decked out in their best costumes, to win this race.
With over 50,000 participants, 100,000 or more spectators annually and live music along the streets this surely is one of the best ways to get your blood flowing while spending some time enjoying the beauty of the Bay area, it certainly is one of a kind.
