Sleepy City Mascot
There are not many people who would be eager to venture off to Thunder Bay for a vacation during the cold winter months. But I have to tell you, having had the opportunity to visit this ‘Superior City by Nature’ during every season; I’ve come to realize that this sleepy town is home to some of the most remarkable sights in Ontario.
The most remarkable sight I’ve had the pleasure of exploring is The Sleeping Giant, Thunder Bay’s 50 million ton City mascot. Now, I bet you there aren’t too many other places in the world that can say their mascot weighs that much, and so if you love to watch the sun cascade down the mountain, The Sleeping Giant is calling your name.
As you take to the Sleeping Giant Provincial Park, you’ll embark on a recreational journey like never before. With hiking, biking, camping, wildlife viewing, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, canoeing and kayaking the park is bursting at the seams with adventure. And as you canoe through Lake Superior you’ll be able to see the natural formation of The Sleeping Giant. From afar, the mount looks as though a giant is actually sleeping, which in my eyes is pretty clever of Mother Nature to have created such a sight. Strolling through, or along the park, you walk through steep cliffs that at 240 meters, are amongst the highest in Ontario. So no matter if you want to capture the sun setting or catch it rising early in the morning, The Sleeping Giant is one of the most majestic spots to watch the sun get carried up and away into the morning sky.
